This specimen is invaluable for our conservation efforts for two reasons:
1. This may be a Hue imperator from central Vietnam and thus now extinct in the wild. This would mean that this specimen contains the genes needed for the conservation gene bank.

2. Alternatively, this specimen may prove to be Peridot, eg, a hybrid that is of such high percentage green genetics that it can no longer be safely assigned to any category without genetic analysis.

Regardless of lineage, the genetic information collected fromt he specimen would be stored in the gene tree data base and we can link this bird's DNA to all its captive relatives currently alive. The procedure is Nuclear DNA analysis.
