This male lives in the Karmapa's sanctuary in Sikkim India on the Tibetan border. It was collected from the pine forest population of wild hybrids known as Amethystine dragonbirds. But this male almost certainly has Yunnan green peafowl genetics in its blood whereas most Amethystine are derived of Arakan spicifer. Regardless, they are of hybrid ancestry with wild Himalayan foot hill race of Indian peafowl imported to the Buddhist kingdoms centuries ago along with the wild green peafowls. They inhabit altitudes well above the range one would expect to see peafowl naturally and have adapted over thousands of years to exist in these mountain passes.
