just looked up an article written in Amarna Letters Vol 4.
Can't remember the author. (*sound of old age creeping up*)
He makes a case for Sitamun not being the daughter of Amenhotep and Tiye at all, but the daughter of Thutmosis IV and Iaret(Queen and God's Wife of Amun).
He made some compelling arguments. In Soleb there are some inscriptions showing the eldest daughters of amenhotep and Tiye. They are Henutaneb, Isis (=Aset) and Nebettawy.
This implies that Sitamun would be the 4th daughter. The idea of marrying his daughter is silly enough (as Robert mentioned). Amenhotep III was firmly situated on the throne and didn't need to strengthen his power.
And even if he did, why marry one of his younger daughters?
The author claims that the evidence pointing to the parentage of Sitamun is fragmentary at best, and open to interpretation.
He makes the point that if Sitamun were really the daughter of ThutmosisIV and the Queen/God's Wife of Amun Iaret, then it would make sense for Sitamun to maybe be raised in the hoousehold of Yuya and Tuya. Tuya being the superior of the harem of Amen.
This would go some way toward explaining why Sitamun was the only royal daughter to give funerary gifts to Yuya and Tuya.
If she was the daughter of Thutmosis and Iaret, then marrying her half-brother would make more sense. It wasn't that AIII needed the marriage, but it would nicely follow customs.
The article also mentioned the theory that Nefertiti and Mutnodjemet may have been daughters of Sitamun and Amenhotep. Not sure I see any evidence for that, but I thought I would just mention it.
