The Indian Peafowl is one of the most recognizaeable bird species in the world. Suprisingly its population is comprised of two distinctive subspecies.
Pavo cristatus cristatus of India and Pavo cristatus singhalensis of Sri Lanka. There are at least two additional ly distinctive geographic forms of the nominate form. The most distinctive is the Simla race of the Himalayan foothills.
